{"id":101,"date":"2003-03-06T22:30:00","date_gmt":"2003-03-07T02:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.markbaker.ca\/wp\/?p=212"},"modified":"2003-03-06T22:30:00","modified_gmt":"2003-03-07T02:30:00","slug":"bea-and-don-boxs-comments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.markbaker.ca\/blog\/2003\/03\/bea-and-don-boxs-comments\/","title":{"rendered":"BEA and Don Box&#8217;s comments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few people have already commented on Don&#8217;s comments about there being\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.infoworld.com\/article\/03\/03\/05\/HNmanyspecs_1.html\">enough specs already<\/a>.\nFWIW, and not too surprisingly I expect, I saw those comments as a direct jab\nat BEA, who earlier this week released\n<a href=\"http:\/\/lists.w3.org\/Archives\/Public\/www-ws-arch\/2003Mar\/0018.html\">three more WS-* specs<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p>It was good to finally see BEA go out on its own, lord knows that&#8217;s been\nlong overdue.  But those three specs were very disappointing as a first\nattempt.  I mean, they&#8217;re ok work (though MessageData seems to be a pretty weak\nattempt at addressing Roy&#8217;s issue about the different types of HTTP headers being\nall munged together), but are over specified (note to authors,\nleave some room in the margins for the standardization process 8-), and don&#8217;t stand\nalone very well.  They need to be bundled together under some kind of catch-all\n&#8220;SOAP Extension Suite&#8221; or something.  Or perhaps in WS-I, separating them out as\nthree is the best way to get them into some new-fangled profile, who knows.
