But\nwhether or not you buy the “Web for machine-to-machine integration” position,\nI think it’s pretty clear that because UDDI registries were accessed primarily\nby humans and not automata, that it was<\/em> directly competitive with the\nHTML-based Web.<\/p>\n\n And that’s exactly what we saw happen; there was the emergence of non-UDDI\nregistries such as\nXMethods<\/a>\nwhich primarily presented an HTML\/HTTP interface, but more interestingly, we\nsaw the UDDI registries themselves being used almost exclusively (from what\nI heard) through their HTML\/HTTP interface.<\/p>\n\n So what will happen when automata<\/em> want to start doing\nactual<\/em> dynamic discovery and integration, and we need more than\nplain old HTML? Will they incorporate the lessons from UDDI? Will they\ntry to reinvent it? Or is a centralized registry, or some component thereof,\neven necessary?<\/p>\n\n I hear\nPhil Windley<\/a>\nhas some ideas\nin this space<\/a>.\nIn fact, he and a student of his, Tom Warne, will be\npresenting<\/a>\nthis work on my\nDev track<\/a>\nat\nWWW2006<\/a>\nin Edinburgh next month.
