{"id":1558,"date":"2006-05-23T18:06:00","date_gmt":"2006-05-23T22:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.markbaker.ca\/wp\/2006\/05\/23\/ws-revolt\/"},"modified":"2006-05-23T18:06:00","modified_gmt":"2006-05-23T22:06:00","slug":"ws-revolt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.markbaker.ca\/blog\/2006\/05\/ws-revolt\/","title":{"rendered":"WS-Revolt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week marked a turning point.<\/p>\n\n<p>I enjoyed myself at\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.xtech.org\">XTech<\/a>\n(as usual), where, as you&#8217;d expect, a lot of the talk was\nabout Web 2.0, mashups, and yes, even &#8220;Web services&#8221;.\nThankfully though, it&#8217;s not the usual &#8220;Web services&#8221;;\nwhat I noticed (confirmed by others), much to my surprise,\nwas that <em>the users seem to have reclaimed the\nterm<\/em> from the\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.technorati.com\/tag\/enterprisey\">enterprisey<\/a>\narchitects, and, at least\nin Amsterdam, were using it <em>to refer (almost) solely to RESTful\n(or &#8220;REST-like&#8221;, ala\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tbray.org\/ongoing\/When\/200x\/2006\/03\/26\/On-REST\">Web style<\/a>)\nWeb services<\/em>!<\/p>\n\n<p>I have to admit, when I hear it used this way, I was taken aback,\nand it took me more than a few double-takes before I caught on that\nI really <em>could<\/em> let my guard down; these were friendly folk.<\/p>\n\n<p>I didn&#8217;t see <em>that<\/em> coming.<\/p>\n\n<a href=\"http:\/\/del.icio.us\/tag\/soa\">soa<\/a>,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/del.icio.us\/tag\/rest\">rest<\/a>,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/del.icio.us\/tag\/web\">web<\/a>,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/del.icio.us\/tag\/enterprisey\">enterprisey<\/a>,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/del.icio.us\/tag\/webservices\">webservices<\/a>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Last week marked a turning point.
