As near as I can tell, it&#8217;s being used by Web services folks to mean simply &#8220;a service available over the Internet&#8221;, which AFAIK includes email, FTP, the Web, IRC.  Really, what distributed system is <em>not<\/em> about services?<\/p>\n\n<p>If marketing buzzwords are going to make it into technical discussion, please make sure they&#8217;re not <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tuxedo.org\/~esr\/jargon\/html\/entry\/no-op.html\">no-ops.<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"I&#8217;ve seen the phrase &#8220;Service Oriented Architecture&#8221; (SOA) thrown about by so many people recently, and every time I see it, I cringe.
