{"id":485,"date":"2004-10-08T00:43:00","date_gmt":"2004-10-08T04:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.markbaker.ca\/wp\/2004\/10\/08\/architectural-consistency\/"},"modified":"2004-10-08T00:43:00","modified_gmt":"2004-10-08T04:43:00","slug":"architectural-consistency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.markbaker.ca\/blog\/2004\/10\/architectural-consistency\/","title":{"rendered":"Architectural consistency"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IMO, before any new WG is chartered at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/\">W3C<\/a>,\nthe <em>objective<\/em> of that WG should be validated for architectural consistency\nwith the Web (you know, the thing it&#8217;s trying to\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/Consortium\/\">lead to its full potential<\/a>?).<\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2002\/ws\/addr\/\">Here<\/a> we have a WG whose\nprimary objective is to produce a spec which will, prima facie based upon its\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2004\/09\/wsa-charter.html\">charter<\/a>,\nviolate a key architecture principle (what, it&#8217;s just &#8220;good practice&#8221;?) of the Web;\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/webarch\/#pr-use-uris\">identify things with URIs<\/a>.\nHow can you get any more architecturally <em>in<\/em>consistent than that?<\/p>\n\n<p>I&#8217;m not upset, I&#8217;m just confused.  How has it gone this far?\n<a href=\"http:\/\/lists.w3.org\/Archives\/Public\/www-tag\/2002Apr\/0235.html\">Mass hysteria<\/a>\nshould not be an excuse.  It&#8217;s a good thing that OASIS seems to have done the bulk of\nof the WS-* heavy lifting, leaving just <a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2002\/ws\/\">four<\/a>\nat the W3C.
