{"id":576,"date":"2004-11-22T15:11:00","date_gmt":"2004-11-22T19:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.markbaker.ca\/wp\/2004\/11\/22\/the-new-gig\/"},"modified":"2004-11-22T15:11:00","modified_gmt":"2004-11-22T19:11:00","slug":"the-new-gig","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.markbaker.ca\/blog\/2004\/11\/the-new-gig\/","title":{"rendered":"The new gig"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For those of you not at XML 2004 last week, my new client is\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.justsystem.com\">Justsystem<\/a>, a mid sized\n(800 employee) consumer and enterprise software company based in Japan\nwith a\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.justsystem.com\/corporate_history.html\">long history<\/a>\nof successful product development.  I&#8217;m working\nthere part time, for at least the next several months, assisting them\nin making a new Web based compound document technology of theirs &#8211;\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.xfytec.com\">xfy<\/a> (pronounced &#8220;ecks-fi&#8221;) &#8211;\na success.  At the conference we announced the immediate availability\nof a technology preview (downloadable at that link), and the planned\nproductization of the technology by mid 2005.<\/p>\n\n<p>Since I first started exploring CORBA and\n<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/OpenDoc\">OpenDoc<\/a>\nintegration back in 1995 or so, the vision of compound documents as\nboth a general user interface model, as well as a largely universal\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.xml.com\/pub\/a\/2004\/10\/27\/extend.html\">data extensibility<\/a>\nsolution, has never strayed too far from my thoughts, nor my work.  So when I\nwas approached by the company in September, and introduced to xfy, the\ndecision to help them was a total no-brainer.
