{"id":673,"date":"2005-02-10T00:59:00","date_gmt":"2005-02-10T04:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.markbaker.ca\/wp\/2005\/02\/10\/morimoto\/"},"modified":"2005-02-10T00:59:00","modified_gmt":"2005-02-10T04:59:00","slug":"morimoto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.markbaker.ca\/blog\/2005\/02\/morimoto\/","title":{"rendered":"Morimoto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just got back from a lovely dinner at\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.morimotorestaurant.com\">Morimoto<\/a> (grrr, flash),\nthe restaurant of the famous\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.chefmorimoto.com\/ironchef\/ironchef.htm\">Iron Chef Morimoto<\/a>.\nI had the 2nd level Omakase tasting\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.morimotorestaurant.com\/morimoto_menus.pdf\">menu<\/a>,\nwhich gave my tastebuds a workout through sweet, salty, bitter, and umami\n(no sour, AFAICT).  There was a Chinese influence to at least a couple of\nthe courses that I wasn&#8217;t expecting given his Japanese\/Western-fusion\nreputation, but it was absolutely wonderful &#8230;\nexcept for the penultimate (prior to the dessert) course, sushi.\nThe pieces were too small, which I can forgive, but it all tasted very &#8220;flat&#8221;,\nwhich I&#8217;m less forgiving about.  I don&#8217;t expect that this was due to poor\nquality (the texture was wonderful, especially the toro) or preparation, but\ninstead due to my palate being complete tuckered and unable to appreciate\nthe delicate flavours of the fish.  Perhaps I&#8217;m also not fully appreciating the\nstructure of the meal, but I would have personally put the sushi as the second\ncourse, after the tuna tartar (and reduced it to three larger pieces).<\/p>\n\n<p>Still, the previous six courses were to <em>die<\/em> for, and the\nrestaurant was a\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.abarrelofthis.com\/photos\/PHL\/morimoto\/images\/dan_kristin_morimoto_2.JPG\">site<\/a> to\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.abarrelofthis.com\/photos\/PHL\/morimoto\/images\/\">see<\/a>.\nHighly recommended, next time you&#8217;re in Philadelphia.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Just got back from a lovely dinner at Morimoto (grrr, flash), the restaurant of the famous Iron Chef Morimoto.
