{"id":78,"date":"2003-01-15T04:25:00","date_gmt":"2003-01-15T08:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.markbaker.ca\/wp\/?p=235"},"modified":"2003-01-15T04:25:00","modified_gmt":"2003-01-15T08:25:00","slug":"w3c-choreography-working-group-chartered","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.markbaker.ca\/blog\/2003\/01\/w3c-choreography-working-group-chartered\/","title":{"rendered":"W3C Choreography Working Group Chartered"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More tail-chasing going on over at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/\">W3C<\/a>\nwith the chartering of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2002\/ws\/chor\/\">Web Services\nChoreography WG<\/a>.  I&#8217;m really disappointed that\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/People\/Berners-Lee\/\">Tim<\/a> didn&#8217;t take this opportunity\nto speak his mind about the mistakes being made with Web services, especially\nconsidering that this working group exists to\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.markbaker.ca\/2002\/12\/HypermediaWorkflow\/\">replace the hypermedia\napplication model<\/a>, which is pretty darned fundamental to Web architecture.<\/p>\n\n<p>I guess he knows what he&#8217;s doing though.  Perhaps he feels he can contain Web\nservices, and prevent <em>them<\/em> from preventing <em>him<\/em> from leading the Web to its full\npotential.  I <em>did<\/em> think that the initial move to accept them into the W3C was an excellent\none, as there, they may actually be fixed enough to earn the right to call themselves <em>Web<\/em>\nservices.  Unfortunately, nobody seems to be officially assigned to the task to doing\njust that, though <a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/People\/Hugo\/\">Hugo<\/a> and\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/People\/all#dbooth\">David<\/a> try to keep things in check, what\nmost people know to be Web services (i.e. putting the method name in the SOAP envelope) is\na fundamentally broken style for the Internet, which is a big issue for them to tackle,\nespecially given the mostly neutral positions they&#8217;re expected to hold as team contacts\n(not officially, but in practice it&#8217;s hard for them to hold strong opinions).\nThat&#8217;s why I&#8217;ve been doing it.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"More tail-chasing going on over at the W3C with the chartering of the Web Services Choreography WG.
