The following\n<a href=\"http:\/\/hyperthink.net\/blog\/PermaLink,guid,e5cbc9c2-6f8b-49f7-aa18-241588fb6b72.aspx\">comment by Steve Maine<\/a>\ndescribes it;<\/p>\n\n<blockquote cite=\"http:\/\/hyperthink.net\/blog\/PermaLink,guid,e5cbc9c2-6f8b-49f7-aa18-241588fb6b72.aspx\">\nI do think there a lot of interesting ideas and scenarios enabled by  RESTful usage of HTTP. I also think that WS-* solves a class of problems which RESTful HTTP does not handle well.\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p>I&#8217;m glad my efforts, and those of other Web proponents, are having\nsuch an impact; it wasn&#8217;t that long ago that the Web wasn&#8217;t even\nconsidered a serious architectural option, and well known (but unnamed\n&#8211; you know who you are! 8-) Web services proponents were dismissing it\nas &#8220;for humans&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n<p>So if you&#8217;re even a <em>little<\/em> bit surprised that REST has come\nthis far over the past five years, believe me when I say that this steady\nstate, isn&#8217;t; it&#8217;s just an\n<a href=\"http:\/\/hyperthink.net\/blog\/PermaLink,guid,e5cbc9c2-6f8b-49f7-aa18-241588fb6b72.aspx\">inflection point<\/a>.  The RESTful stack solves a much wider variety of problems\nthan most believe.<\/p>\n\n<p>Remember, Web services are based upon a\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.markbaker.ca\/Talks\/2005-ws-harmful\/slide1-0.html\">misunderstanding<\/a>;\nif you want a loosely coupled,\ndocument oriented, distributed computing infrastructure, well, &#8220;You&#8217;re\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/WWW\/\">soaking in it!<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n\n<p>More on this soon, at my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coactus.com\/blog\/\">Coactus blog<\/a>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"So it appears we&#8217;ve reached a new steady state in the ongoing Web vs. Web services debate.
